On Tuesday January 28, 2020, Nan Virginia Colwell Creaghan passed away at the Miramichi Hospital at the age of 85, after a long fight with cancer. Nan was born in Jacquet River, NB on January 13, 1935. Daughter of late Melvin and Alice (Doyle) Colwell. She is survived by her loving husband, Tom; sons, Jonathan (Joanne) Creaghan and Geoffrey (Alyson) Creaghan; grandchildren, Spencer, Danica, Christopher, and Aidan; siblings, David (June) Colwell, Marion Peterson, Stephen (Joann) Colwell; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Nan lived in Ontario for many years, but spent the last 30 years on the shores of the Miramichi Bay in Burnt Church where she felt most at home. She published her first book in her late seventies and was currently working on the third volume. Volunteering was an important part of her life including the Elizabeth Fry Society, and she ran a number of drop-in-centers for troubled teens. Her faith was very important to her and helped to guide her life.
She was especially connected to the Esgenoôpetitj First Nations community at Burnt Church, who honoured her with the name, “White Stone”.
The funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Ann, Burnt Church NB. Celebration of life will be held in Summer 2020.
