Elaine Hazen Publicover (née Lillian MacArthur) died peacefully December 2, 2005 in her 91st year in Halifax.
Elaine was a pioneering broadcaster and was well known as TV Nurse, a program which was seen regularly for 10 years in the 1960s and 1970s by thousands of viewers in Eastern Maine, most of New Brunswick, Western and Northern Nova Scotia.
She had for several years been a member of the World Health Organization, an arm of the United Nations. She was a graduate of Pictou Academy, the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing (Halifax) and McGill University.
Elaine was beautiful, gracious, determined, brave and fun. Daughter of the former Henry and Ella MacArthur of Pictou. Beloved wife of George F. Publicover. Mother of Douglas Hazen (Maura Ann) of Smiths Falls, Ontario and Frances Carmichael (Jack Cashman) of Toronto. She is also sadly missed by her grandchildren Stephanie Castura (Jeff), Samantha Hazen (Dave Armstrong) and Doug Hazen Jr., great-grandchild Evan Castura. Dear sister of Welsford MacArthur. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband Dr. Frank Hazen of Saint John, brother Edward, sisters Joyce and Constance.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 6 from 2-4 PM and from 7-9 PM, at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, December 7 at 1:00 PM at the Cathedral Church of All Saints in Halifax with the Very Reverend Glen R. Burgomaster officiating. The service will be followed by a reception in Worrell Hall. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Elaine’s name to the “Save the Children Fund.”
