William Raymond Christopher Bunting (1919–1989) died Saturday in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Santa Monica, California, he was a son of the late Sydney Curran and Aileen (Smith) Bunting.
He spent most of his early life in Montreal. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew missions in England, Egypt, Yugoslavia and Italy. After the war he remained with the Air Force and had several postings, including NORAD Headquarters, Colorado Springs. He was checked out on 31 different aircraft.
After retiring, he worked for Manpower and Immigration in Halifax where he set up a Second Careers Program for retiring military personnel. He was a member of the Maritime Personnel Association, the University and College Placement Association, the Gerontology Association of Nova Scotia, the United Services Institute, the Canadian Fighter Pilots Association, and the Royal Artillery Park Officers Mess/Stadacona Ward Room.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra, Galway, Ireland; a granddaughter; several nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia; two brothers, John, Sydney. Burial will be in the Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal.
