“The centres of such a community as Newcastle were of course, the Square, the Churches, the School, the Court House, the Waverly Hotel, and, to me, the Manse. There were three prominent doctors, three lawyers, two druggists, and three merchants. I can never forget John Brander, J.D. Creaghan and George Stables.” – Lord Beaverbrook, My Early Life J.D. Creaghan and Family
John Daniel Creaghan married Ellen Gertrude Adams on November 13, 1882 at St. Mary’s Church in Newcastle, New Brunswick. Here they are with their nine children in front of the Creaghan home on Prince William Street sometime in the late 1890s. From left to right: Clare, Jack, Don, Bun, Neen, Bill on father’s lap, Dew, Nan (standing next to her mother) and Mollie.
